Will I Be Able to Sleep on My Side After Facelift Surgery?
At Chiseled, we have proudly performed many facelift procedures for men throughout the Spring, TX area. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Young Cho provides cosmetic solutions to get the body and face you’ve always wanted. We know the decision to get a facelift is a big one, and Dr. Cho can answer whatever questions you have surrounding the process and put your mind at ease.
One of the most popular questions we receive about the facelift procedure is about sleeping positions after the surgery. You will be able to sleep on your side about 2 – 4 weeks after the procedure. Facelift patients are encouraged to use a safe sleeping position for the first few weeks after the process.
What happens after my facelift procedure?
The facelift process entails incisions near the temples and behind the ears. The positioning makes it easier for the skin to move back and for the muscles and tissues to be tightened. Bruising and swelling will occur around the face and the incision sites. While you may be able to get back to some work routines or other non-strenuous activities in about 1 – 2 weeks after the surgery, it can take at least a month for the face to fully recover.
Part of the recovery process after a facelift involves sleeping in the correct position. You will have an easier time healing if you keep from adding more stress to your face by sleeping on your side.
What is the ideal sleeping position while recovering from a facelift?
The best sleeping position after a facelift is to sleep on your back. Keep your head elevated at a 30-degree angle while you are sleeping. The positioning prevents you from adding more pressure to the face and the incision sites, and it is easier for the skin to recover.
Your body might naturally move to the side while you sleep, as it might be a more comfortable position. We at Chiseled in Spring, TX recommend you add extra pillows to your sides to keep your body from moving more than necessary. You can also roll up some towels and place them on your sides if you don’t have any extra pillows. This will help keep you from producing more movement than necessary.
How long until you can go back to sleeping on your side?
You should be ready to sleep on your side once again about 2 – 4 weeks after the procedure. The timing should be enough to where the skin will be healed, and you will not risk possible harm. Talk with Dr. Cho to receive confirmation that your face is healing well before you go back to that position you are most comfortable with.
