What Is Liposuction for men?

Despite how much men diet and exercise, they may still be bothered by pockets of fat that keep them from feeling completely confident in their body. Chiseled is proud to offer the most advanced treatments to effectively rid fat from certain body parts. Surgical liposuction for men is a body contouring procedure that reduces pockets of fat from the abdomen, hips, thighs, or buttocks to produce a more toned appearance. This fat removal surgery at Chiseled can be blended to treat multiple body parts if needed. During your initial visit, Spring, TX plastic surgeon Dr. Younghoon Cho will assess problem areas and create a custom treatment plan to help men reach their aesthetic goals.

What are the benefits of liposuction?

Many men desire a more defined appearance that includes contoured and toned body parts. Instead of spending hours at the gym only to be disappointed with small fat pockets around the abdomen and other areas, liposuction is a proven way to reach your aesthetic goals. Some of the most well-known benefits of liposuction for men include:

  • The chance to remove fat from multiple areas in one treatment session
  • Improved self-confidence when your body reflects the healthy lifestyle you've been living
  • A more toned physique overall
  • An opportunity to speak with Dr. Cho about personalized results

Am I A Good Candidate for MAle liposuction?

Fat removal surgery is a good procedure for those who are at an ideal weight, but have pesky areas of fat that are difficult to rid with diet alone. Ideal candidates for liposuction should have healthy skin because liposuction does not treat loose or sagging skin. It's also important to understand that liposuction is not a treatment for weight loss. At the time of your consultation for surgery, Dr. Cho will discuss realistic expectations.

How Is liposuction For Men Performed?

Liposuction is an outpatient treatment under general anesthesia and usually takes about 1 – 3 hours to complete. Dr. Cho will make a very small incision to easily insert the handheld cannula device, which is a tool that helps loosen the fat needing to be vacuumed out. After removing the desired amount of fat, Dr. Cho will seal the small incision. Based on the number of areas receiving treatment, your procedure could take several hours. In a separate recovery area, your post-op team will help you manage any pain and will care for your treated areas until your discharge.

What Should I Expect After Male Liposuction?

Following liposuction, you may be in recovery at home for several weeks depending on the number of areas that were treated and the amount of fat removed. It's normal to see bruising and swelling for around 1 – 2 weeks, and we'll need to remove the stitches in about 7 – 10 days. What's most important after this procedure is to allow your body time to recover and heal. When you're ready to go back to work after your surgery, you should remember to minimize stress and strenuous activity. To build up your strength and stamina, stick to short walks and light workouts as advised by Dr. Cho. Remember, you may notice some changes after 4 – 6 weeks, but it usually takes around 6 – 10 months for your new body shape and contour to fully develop.

Male Liposuction Frequently Asked Questions

What about nonsurgical liposuction?
Thanks to modern advancements, there are several nonsurgical options to reduce fat. Some popular methods are CoolSculpting, VanquishMe, BodyTite, FaceTite, and KYBELLA. Although these nonsurgical treatments may help reduce small amounts of fat, liposuction tends to work best for most men. Liposuction surgery produces more consistent and dramatic results. Talk to Dr. Cho about nonsurgical and surgical lipo during your consultation. He can explain the benefits of both methods and help you choose which is best for you.

What about loose skin?
Surgical liposuction only addresses excess fat. For loose skin, Dr. Cho may recommend combining liposuction with a lift surgery. The most common procedures that we perform alongside lipo include adbominoplaty, thighplasty, and arm lifts. In your consultation, tell Dr. Cho about any concerns, like loose skin, so he can develop a custom treatment plan to address all of your unique needs.

Will I have scars?
Since liposuction is a surgical procedure, Dr. Cho will have incisions to suture, which causes scars; however, Dr. Cho does his best to minimize their appearance by making small, thin incisions in less visible areas or in the natural folds of your body. After your surgery, Dr. Cho or a member of our team will go over how to care for your stitches so they heal flat and fade nicely.

Will my results last?
Before liposuction, it's important to prepare to maintain your results. While liposuction reduces the amount of fat in a specific area, you can still lose and gain weight. Dr. Cho recommends that you be at or near your ideal weight prior to liposuction. Afterward, it is best to stay within 5 – 10 pounds of your post-surgical weight. Getting pregnant after liposuction will also affect your results, but we can perform another surgery later to refresh your appearance.
